Out of breath, a man approached a nun with urgency, pleading, “Please, may I hide under your skirt? I’ll explain later.” Surprised but compassionate, the nun agreed, sensing the urgency in the man’s request.
No sooner had the man hidden beneath her habit than two military police officers arrived, their authoritative presence palpable. “Sister, have you seen a man running through here?” they inquired, scanning the area with a keen eye.
Remaining composed, the nun calmly replied, “No, officers, I haven’t seen anyone.”
Satisfied with her response, the military police nodded curtly and continued their pursuit elsewhere.
As the coast cleared, the man emerged from his makeshift hiding place, gratitude evident in his eyes.
“Thank you, Sister,” he said, relieved. “You saved me from getting caught.”
With a gentle smile, the nun replied, “It was the least I could do. Now, perhaps you can explain why you needed to hide under my skirt?”
Chuckling sheepishly, the man confessed, “Well, you see, I’m actually a deserter from the army. I was trying to evade capture.”
Despite the unconventional circumstances, the nun’s heart softened at the man’s plight. Offering a reassuring pat on the shoulder, she said, “You’re safe now.
Take care of yourself, and may you find the peace you seek.”
And with that, the man bid farewell to his unexpected savior, carrying with him a newfound appreciation for the kindness and compassion that can be found in the most unlikely of places.
