A gynecologist notices that a new patient is nervous. While putting on her gloves, the doctor decides to lighten the mood.
“Would you like me to numb the area before the examination?” the doctor asks with a smile.
The patient, already feeling uneasy, stammers, “Um, sure, but is that really necessary?”
The doctor chuckles, “Well, it’s not necessary, but it’ll give you a sense of numbness, like when you go to the dentist.”
The patient hesitates for a moment, then nods in agreement. The doctor proceeds to apply a local anesthetic.
As the examination begins, the patient starts to relax a bit, feeling grateful for the numbing effect. But then, to her surprise, she feels a sudden pinch.
“Ouch! Doctor, I thought you said I’d be numb!” she exclaims, flinching.
The doctor pauses, then grins mischievously, “Oh, sorry about that. I was referring to your arm. I just wanted to see the look on your face!”
The patient lets out a nervous laugh, relieved that the pinch wasn’t where she initially thought.
From that moment on, the tension in the room dissipates, and the examination proceeds smoothly. As the patient leaves, she can’t help but smile at the unexpected humor that helped ease her nerves.
And the gynecologist? Well, she adds another successful appointment to her list and a new story to share with her colleagues.
