She quickly became a recognizable face on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where she amassed over 200,000 followers combined. Beyond her online persona, she was a businesswoman, owning and operating Blossom The Beauty Lounge, a salon in Zapopan, Jalisco.

Valeria also appeared in music videos for regional Mexican artists, further solidifying her status in the entertainment industry. Her followers admired her for her confidence, style, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The Tragic Livestream

On the evening of May 13, 2025, Valeria was live streaming from her salon when she received an unexpected gift—a stuffed animal and a Starbucks coffee—delivered by a man posing as a courier. Moments before, she had expressed unease, telling her audience, “I think I’m about to go,” hinting at a sense of foreboding. Shortly after receiving the gift, the man shot her in the chest and head, killing her instantly. The horrifying incident was broadcast live, leaving viewers in shock.

Authorities believe the murder was a targeted hit, possibly linked to organized crime. The assailant and an accomplice had visited the salon earlier to confirm Valeria’s presence, suggesting premeditation.

Aftermath and Public Reaction

In the days following her death, a bouquet of red roses with a note reading “Sorry” was left outside her salon, believed to be from the killer. This act added a chilling layer to an already tragic event.

Valeria’s murder sparked widespread outrage and grief. Fans, fellow influencers, and women’s rights activists took to social media to express their condolences and demand justice. Her death highlighted the alarming rates of femicide in Mexico, where an estimated 10 women are murdered daily.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her condolences and assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, with the security cabinet working closely with the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office to find those responsible.

Broader Implications

Valeria Márquez’s death is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing trend of violence against women in Mexico. Her murder, occurring during a live broadcast, underscores the vulnerability of women, even those with public profiles and perceived security.

The incident also raises concerns about the safety of social media influencers, who often share personal details and locations online, potentially exposing themselves to risks. It serves as a grim reminder of the need for better protection and support for women, both online and offline.

Remembering Valeria

Valeria Márquez will be remembered for her vibrant personality, entrepreneurial drive, and the joy she brought to her followers. Her untimely death is a stark reminder of the dangers women face and the urgent need for societal change to address and prevent such tragedies.
